CHESS «OSCAR» — TO VESELIN TOPALOV
In 11-th time the russian chess magazine «64 Chess Review» (the editor-in-chief Alexander Roshal) has summed up traditional competition «Oscar». This prize is handed over to the best chess player of the last year. And till now Garry Kasparov was awarded for five times, Vishwanatan Anand — for four times, Vladimir Kramnik — once.

At calculation 361 list from 68 countries has been considered. Among voted are the journalists writing and acting in mass media, visible chess experts and the grandmasters, publishing the materials on a regular basis.
In 293 lists of the «best ten» Topalov is put on the first place. In the sum it has typed 4376 points. And here who has appeared on the subsequent places: 2. V.Anand (India) — 3495 (31 times he is named by the first), 3. L.Aronyan (Armenia) — 2721 (10), 4. P.Svidler (Russia) — 1881 (1), 5. P.Leko (Hungary) — 1187, 6. A.Morozevich (Russia) — 1025 (4), 7. Garry Kasparov (Russia) — 1001 (12), 8. Vasily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) — 968 (2), 9. R.Ponomarev (Ukraine) — 821, 10. M.Carlsen (Norway) — 433 (2).
The bronze figurine of «The Fascinated wanderer» will be handed over to Topalov on May, 10th at the opening of the international tournament in Sofia. In ceremony is expected participation of the president of Bulgaria George Pravanov and the president of International chess federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov which the editor-in-chief «64» will ask to hand over a prize to the winner.
